Clay Studies: Closed-Forms & Ornaments
November 9th 6:00pm-8:00pm
Introducing Clay Studies, a series of workshops built for learning specific techniques!
This closed-forms workshop is designed for potters who are ready to take their wheel-throwing skills to the next level and learn a skill rarely taught in pottery classes. Focusing on the art of creating closed forms, students will learn how to throw, shape, and refine these versatile structures, perfect for developing bottle forms, sculptural work, and seasonal ornaments.
Instruction will include how to throw a closed-form and make a chuck for trimming challenging shapes, with tips for maintaining symmetry and control throughout the process. We’ll also explore creative ways to transform closed-forms into holiday ornaments!
This is a skill-building session and does not include firing or finished pieces. The goal is to give you new tools, techniques, and confidence to continue developing your practice independently. Open to students who are comfortable centering and throwing basic forms on the wheel. Participants may return for an optional drop-in session to finish their work. Bisque and glaze firing services are available at an additional cost.
Bring your curiosity, and a readiness to refine your technique.
