Throwing w/ More — Large-Scale Wheel Throwing Workshop

$150.00
Sold Out

Ready to start throwing more clay than you’re currently comfortable with? Throwing w/ More is an intermediate wheel-throwing workshop at TOUCI Ceramic Studio in Victoria, BC, designed for potters who want to build the skills and confidence to work with larger amounts of clay.

Maybe you’ve been dreaming about taller vases, larger planters, or more substantial vessels, but things start getting difficult as soon as you add more clay — centering becomes harder, your walls become less controlled, or the form collapses before it reaches the size you imagined. This workshop is about understanding what needs to change when you scale up your throwing.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll help you work beyond the amount of clay you’re currently comfortable throwing. You’ll explore techniques for centering larger amounts of clay, opening, pulling, controlling wall thickness, maintaining structure, and managing larger forms on the pottery wheel. The goal isn’t to reach a particular weight — it’s to help you confidently progress beyond your current limit.

We’ll also introduce sectional throwing, including techniques for throwing separate components and joining two or more wheel-thrown sections together. This opens the door to taller and larger ceramic forms without relying on throwing everything from a single lump of clay.

This is an intermediate pottery workshop, so you should already be comfortable centering and throwing independently. Whatever amount of clay you’re currently confident with, we’ll start from there and help you work toward more.

Your workshop includes 10 kg of fresh white clay to use during the session, and any clay you don’t use is yours to take home. Additional clay is available for purchase if needed.

This workshop focuses on technique and skill development rather than producing finished work, so glazing and firing are not included. If you create something you’d like to continue working on, eligible TOUCI students can book drop-in studio time afterward to trim, finish, and glaze their work. Firing can be arranged separately according to our current studio firing rates.

Previous wheel-throwing experience is required. Classes are for ages 16 and above.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy

Cancellation requests must be made by email at least 14 days before the workshop. Cancellations made more than 14 days before the workshop are eligible for a refund, subject to an $85 administration fee per person. No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the workshop.

Because this is a specialty workshop offered on limited dates, we cannot guarantee a make-up class or alternative session. Please double-check your availability before booking.

If TOUCI needs to cancel the workshop due to insufficient enrolment, we’ll contact you approximately one week before the session with the available options.

Works in progress left at TOUCI must follow our current studio storage and drop-in policies.

You’ll receive an instant confirmation after booking, followed by a welcome email with workshop details approximately one week before your session.
